A Political Storm Unveiled: Unraveling the Timing of Zaldy Co's Videos
In a bold move, Representative Leila de Lima has raised eyebrows over the strategic timing of former Ako Bicol party-list representative Zaldy Co's explosive videos. Co's revelations, released just days before a major rally organized by the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC), have sparked a heated debate and left many questioning the intentions behind this timing.
"The timing is certainly suspicious," de Lima stated during a news forum in Quezon City. "With the planned massive protests, one can't help but wonder about the motive behind the release of these videos."
The INC, a religious group, is set to hold a three-day rally at the Quirino Grandstand in Manila, from November 16th to 18th. This rally, titled "Rally for Transparency, Accountability, Justice, and Peace," aims to shed light on the alleged corruption surrounding flood control projects and other climate-related initiatives, where an estimated trillion pesos may have been lost due to corruption since 2023.

In the videos, Co claims that President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. himself instructed the insertion of P100 billion worth of projects through the bicameral conference committee. Co further alleges that he and his associates delivered suitcases of money to both Marcos and former Speaker Martin Romualdez, with Marcos allegedly receiving a 25% cut, amounting to P25 billion.
President Marcos, however, has dismissed Co's allegations, stating, "I don't want to even dignify what he said." Malacañang, the official residence of the President, has expressed doubt that the INC protest will gain traction against the Marcos administration, believing that INC members can discern the truth.

Representative de Lima has urged the public to approach Co's exposé with caution and critical thinking. She emphasized the need to delve deeper into the matter, especially considering the potential impact on the military and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
"The critical question is whether Co's revelations can convince enough forces within the military to join calls for the President's resignation or ouster." de Lima said.
She further reiterated her call for Co to return to the Philippines and provide his testimony under oath, backed by evidence, to give his claims legal weight.
"Until he testifies under oath and his statements are officially recorded, his claims remain just stories. But that doesn't mean we should dismiss them lightly."
"Strategize First"
Senator Ronald "Bato" dela Rosa, a staunch ally of former President Rodrigo Duterte and a critic of the Marcos administration, has also weighed in on the matter. In a Facebook post, he accused certain sectors of remaining silent about Co's claims, suggesting they are strategizing to maintain an appearance of righteousness and anti-corruption while preventing the downfall of a government from which they have benefited.
