In a captivating moment during the first half of Saturday's playoff matchup against the Panthers, Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford experienced a jarring incident when he jammed his finger against a defender. While the injury appeared to cause him discomfort, it surprisingly did not hinder his performance on the field.
After the game, Stafford candidly addressed reporters regarding the injury. "I got a finger bent back," he explained. "They caught it on TV while I was on the sideline. I wasn’t completely aware of what had happened at that moment. It certainly wasn’t a pleasant experience, nor was it ideal. We’ll have to wait and see how it develops. But I managed to finish the game and threw the ball reasonably well. You know how it is—once the ball is snapped, you really feel that adrenaline kick in. So here’s hoping I can keep moving forward without any issues."
Known for his durability, Stafford has a solid track record of playing through injuries. However, if his finger were to swell or tighten up, it could pose challenges for him as he prepares for the upcoming divisional round.
In terms of performance statistics, Stafford completed 24 out of 42 passes for an impressive 304 yards, along with three touchdowns and one interception. This achievement also marks his eighth consecutive playoff game with multiple touchdown passes, tying him with Joe Flacco for the second-longest streak in NFL history.
Next weekend, Stafford has the opportunity to surpass Aaron Rodgers for the all-time record of nine consecutive games with multiple touchdown passes. Unless there is a dramatic turnaround in the Bears versus Packers game, this milestone will take place either in Philadelphia or at home against the 49ers.
