With Halloween falling on a Friday, studios opted to avoid releasing major new films, instead re-releasing classics like 'Back to the Future' and the Netflix sensation, 'KPop Demon Hunters'. 'Regretting You', the latest adaptation of Colleen Hoover's work, opened strongly, following the success of 'It Ends With Us'. However, it's unlikely to match its predecessor's first-weekend earnings of $50 million, with a current domestic total of $27.5 million.
'Black Phone 2', in its third weekend, has already amassed an impressive $61.5 million domestically and $104.7 million globally. Universal also handled the re-release of the beloved 'Back to the Future', which earned $4.7 million, securing a fifth-place spot on the North American charts.
The Netflix hit, 'KPop Demon Hunters', didn't quite match its August success, earning an estimated $5 million this weekend. Sony Pictures and Crunchyroll's 'Chainsaw Man - The Movie: Reze Arc' saw a steep drop in its second weekend, projected to add $6 million.

Paul Dergarabedian, Comscore's head of marketplace trends, described the weekend as "a truly scary one", citing the perfect storm of Halloween and the World Series. However, he added, "the studios and theaters knew this was coming and they planned for it."
The weekend's earnings may be one of the lowest of the year, with an unusually slow October. The next few weekends may bring some much-needed energy back to multiplexes with releases like 'Predator: Badlands' and 'Now You See Me: Now You Don't'. But for a real blockbuster, we might have to wait until Thanksgiving, with the highly anticipated releases of 'Wicked: For Good' and 'Zootopia 2'.
Dergarabedian summed up the weekend, saying, "This was always going to be a tough one. The audience was fragmented, but there are weekends coming where the movie theaters will be the focus of attention."
