Zelensky typically appears serious after meetings with the US leader, but this time he seemed more buoyant. However, he remains cautious about the potential results of the dialogues taking place in the UAE. He referred to these meetings, which are expected to span two days, as "a step forward" but refrained from labeling the initiative as entirely positive. In his words, "We have to hope it will push us a bit closer to peace."
For some time now, Zelensky has indicated that they are approximately 90% towards establishing a framework for peace; nevertheless, the remaining 10% is anticipated to be the most challenging aspect, particularly since Russia may still reject the entire proposal.
He elaborated on the core issue, stating, "It's all about the eastern part of our country. It's all about the land. This is the issue that's not resolved yet," highlighting the significant hurdle that continues to impede progress.
Russia maintains that Ukraine must concede a substantial portion of the eastern Donbas region, territory that they have been unable to secure through military means. Conversely, Ukraine stands firm in its refusal to comply.

This raises a pressing question: Can Kyiv genuinely rely on Trump to provide support in the next crisis? At this moment, they appear to have little choice but to hope for the best.
When it comes to trusting Vladimir Putin, however, there is no misconception among Ukrainians regarding his intentions.
Zelensky voiced skepticism in Davos, stating, "He really doesn't want it," referring to Putin's lack of interest in a peaceful resolution.
The Kremlin has warned that if their demands are unmet during these negotiations, they will pursue their objectives through military means, despite suffering significant losses thus far.
